OU/TX Craft Day!

Well I couldn't very well post something today without mentioning the OU/TX game now could I??  It wasn't much of a game, but it sure was fun to see us destroy (yes, destroy) UT!!

You at least have to give them credit for not giving up... I'm kinda surprised they made it to 21 points that late in the game.  Final score?

Oklahoma 63, Texas 21
BOOMER!

But the real reason I'm posting, is because I finally got to some of my craft projects for little Haven today!  Tim stayed home from his painting class to get her room more cleared out (he has been working ALL day, and it looks so much better!!  Thanks babe!).  I told him to let me know if he needed help, and he told me not to worry - just to have fun with my crafts.  Awww.  What a great husband I have.  :)

So today was Onesie-Dying Day!!  ...and a few bibs... and I ironed on a couple of cute appliques I got as well.  They're going to have appliques at our couples shower for people to iron on, and I decided it would be cute to have some fun colored onesies/bibs for people to use in addition to the white ones!  So these may be cute now, but just wait 'til they're all appliqued-up!  I'm so excited!!  I might have to get a few more colors of RIT dye now that I know how it all works.  It was super easy by the way!

I love all the fun colors!

Got to have a little gray/yellow action - love this color combo!

And here are the appliqued ones!
The lighter pink dye didn't turn out well... the crystals
didn't fully dissolve and left big, dark spots. So this one
looks okay I guess, but she will only wear it at home!  :)
The gray guitar one, however  is AWESOME - I love it!!
So there you have it!  Those were my Saturday baby projects.  It was fun, and I'm quite happy with them, and they will be ridiculously cute after the shower when they are decorated!  And I found cute little iron-on tags that say something like "Made with love by: " that I think we're going to have them put on the inside - that way every time we put it on her, we will remember who made it for her!  Love!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!  Tonight we're going up to our friends' house for Tim's "band practice" - aka, hanging out with great background music.  :)  Then tomorrow is our 2nd "Dexter Date" with some other great friends.  And thennnn I made myself unavailable to sub Monday & Tuesday, so I get an extended weekend!  :D  Hopefully I'll be super productive... and maybe make some more fun baby crafts.

We're taking another bump picture today, so I'll post it soon - can't believe I'm 26 weeks now!  Almost to the 3rd trimester - craaaazy!!

Thank you!!!

And finally... a few thank yous that I've been meaning to throw out there for awhile now.  I've had the pictures, just kept forgetting to post about them!

First:

My sweet friend Kaitlin gave me this "pregnancy survival kit" to help me get through the next few months (she actually gave it to me a month or so ago, so some of it is gone now - put to good use!).  It had everything you could possibly think of... all of the food is long gone (there was even more... but by the time I took this picture the next day, I'd already eaten some of it!), and the other things have come in handy so many times - especially the gel eye mask (a complete life-saver during my 2-month headache fest), the cocoa butter, antacid tablets (hellooo heartburn.  everyday.), gum, and earplugs.  If you look closely you can see the cute little card she made with her sweet baby - I just had to include it in the spread.  :)  So - thank you, thank you, thank you to my sweet friend Kaitlin for thinking of me and giving me this awesome kit.  What a great idea, and so thoughtful!

Second:

Andrea, my bestest friend in the whole world (since 7th grade - wow!) got Haven her first gift!!  She got it for her before we knew her name, before we even knew she was a she!  I am pleased to introduce to you, Sophie the Giraffe... "born" in 1968 and not changed a bit over the  years since then.  She is made of real rubber (you know, from a tree?) and is soooo adorable!!  Apparently she is great for teething, and she squeaks... so that should be tons of fun for everyone, lol.  I told Andrea I wanted one, and that I would return the favor for her when she has a little one of her one (that's how close we are... I actually asked her to get it for me.  This could kinda make me sound tacky I guess, but I think it's more of a testament to how real we are with each other - and I love that about us!)  Since then, she has also managed to get us a TON of baby clothes (Haven is set for the first 3 months of life, fyi) from a friend who was getting rid of them AND is in the middle of planning what is sure to be the most amazing shower ever for Tim and me.

Third:

My mom came down for one of those consignment sales a few weeks ago - she got Haven this adorable little swing (I just fell in love with it!), some super cute outfits and sleepwear (I'm telling you, this girl is good to go for the first little bit of her life!), and some maternity clothes for me.  So sweet!  And it was so fun to go baby shopping together!  I'm sure it is the first of many trips over the years.  :)

We have such good friends and family - I just don't know what we would do without them.  Especially now that I'm not working, all these things are so incredibly helpful and thoughtful.  So thank you!!!  And thank you to the rest of our wonderful friends and family who richly bless our lives.  We love you!

Getting crafty!

Well I finally went and got what I needed for some crafty little projects for Haven!

I actually got fucshia, rose pink, teal, gray, and yellow dye... though I like that green... might have to go find it online.  :)  I got a few other iron-on appliques too.  It's something I've been wanting to do for awhile now, but in preparing for our baby shower, Andrea texted and wanted me to pick out some appliques so we could do some DIY onesies at the shower.  SO fun!!  So rather than just dye different onesies for my own use, I'm going to dye some to use at the shower.  These are going to be my practice ones... hopefully they turn out well enough to use and love!  The pink guitar is for Tim.  :)

I think I'm going to try to start them tonight, we'll see how it goes.  I'm taking Tim on an impromptu date... redeemed some Amex rewards for a yummy gift card (just in case he reads this, I'm not saying where yet!).  We'll see how much gusto I have left when we get home.  The onesies/bibs are all washed and ready to go though!!

I also got some paper-backed fabric that you can run through the printer... I'm going to make some of my own designs, print them out, and hand-sew them onto things.  That will be super fun I think... if I really get around to doing it!

Annnnd I have some nice glossy sheets of sticker paper that I've had for awhile... rather than buying the cute little monthly stickers on Etsy (something like the picture below), I think I'm going to try my hand at making my own!

If they turn out horribly, then I'll buy some (they're only about $10), but I think it'd be fun to make my own.  I know, I'm getting a little ambitious... we'll see how it all pans out!

In other news, I've finished up my long-term subbing gig.  Kinda happy and kinda sad... it was sad to say goodbye to the kiddos and my classroom (for real this time), but it's also been nice to be at home the past few days to get some things done.  I think it will just keep feeling nicer and nicer as the weeks tick by.  Oh!  And the plotting that one class was doing last week?  They went in together and got me a card, had everyone sign it, and included a $25 gift card to Babies R Us to get things for the baby!!  How sweet is that?  I was completely blown away.  It was a really nice send off for sure.

So that's kinda what's been going on!  Not much really... but that's actually kind of nice.  :)  I'll update when I finish some of my projects - wish me luck!  I'm really great at planning things like this and never doing them... so I'm going to need a lot of luck to pull it off!

Holy Babybump, Batman!

So we've kinda fallen down on the job of taking belly pics the past few weeks... we were taking them on Saturday mornings, but Tim started taking a painting class and usually leaves before I'm out of bed now!  I like to take them in the morning, because I feel like it's the most true to what the actual baby-belly looks like... by afternoon/evening it seems like a day of food/bloat makes me look bigger than I am.

I say all that to preface the latest bump pic we took tonight... almost 24 weeks... at the end of the day... I knew the belly has recently really started to be more obvious, but WOW.  This would probably also help explain the recent explosion of heartburn I've been dealing with.  Everything's definitely a lot higher up now!

So, without further ado... here ya go.  Week 24.  Finally looking super duper pregnant:

Only 3 more days of subbing for my old job (and grading!!), and then I take a little break and only sub randomly 3-4 times a week... I think I'm getting excited about this.  :)  Going to miss those kiddos though, I gotta say.  One of the classes is plotting something... two girls came up today and asked if they could talk to the whole class about something... but without me in the room.  So I went out in the hall while they all discussed this "something."  Awww!  So cute.

Well, I think that's all I've got in me for tonight... It's 9:30, and my bed is calling my name!

Quick Update!

Just a quick little update since I had another doctor appointment this afternoon!  I'm currently 22 weeks... will be 23 on Thursday.  Time really seems to be flying now, probably because I've been feeling really great lately (other than getting a sore throat/cold that I'm still trying to get over...).  Lots of energy, good appetite, minimal to no discomfort... loving being pregnant right now.  :)

Here's the latest bump picture... we didn't take one for 22wks, so here's the one for 21.  :)

21 weeks - the bump has finally caught up with the boobs, woo hoo!  :)
Last time I went in, my blood pressure was a little high... which freaked me out a little, because I never have high blood pressure (and it's supposed to be a littler lower than normal anyway during pregnancy).  So I was very anxious to see what it was this time - 110/60!  Woo hoo!!  Definitely breathed a sigh of relief after that.  My theory is that it was high last time from being all jazzed up after seeing the baby and finding out she was a she.  :)

The doctor also was really happy with my weight gain so far - whew!  I'm always a little paranoid to be gaining too much or too little.  Glad to be on track.

Also found out that I could take some different things for my (crazy) allergies, AND she called in a new prescription for my GOOD allergy medicine, so I don't have to make a separate trip to the allergist to get it refilled.  You have no idea how exciting this is to me...

And finally (and most exciting!) - sweet little Haven is doing great!  Her heartbeat was 150bpm, and she was kicking away - the doctor could even see her kicking.  She seemed a little surprised since it's still kinda early for that (and I've been able to see her kick/move for a few weeks now even), and said I was "in for it" when the kicking gets even stronger - said we have a little gymnast in there.  :)  So cute!!

Hypnobirthing class starts on Saturday... I'm really excited, but I also kinda don't know what to expect.  I will definitely update on how it goes!  We'll meet every Saturday for 5 weeks.  Prenatal yoga in the morning and Hypnobirthing in the evening... I'm gonna be so zen.  :)

Annnnd that's all.  Goodnight friends!

Public Service Announcement: Wash your hands!  There's a nasty little cold going around...

It's a GIRL!

Well that's pretty common knowledge by now, but I have to post about it anyway!  The Tuesday after we got back from our wonderfully relaxing San Diego trip, we had our 19 week ultrasound - got to see baby from head to toe, and the tech did all her measurements (I just had to ask what percentile she'd be in for height, since Tim and I are shorties, and she said 33%... hehe.  :)  Not surprising!), and then Baby Proffitt gave us the money shot - it was "as if the baby were sitting on a glass table and we're looking up" she said.  And then those words that I didn't realize how badly I actually wanted to hear - "It's a girl."  She said it really softly and sweetly, and my heart just melted.  Baby girl!!  I hadn't let myself "want" either sex, because I wanted to be 100% happy no matter what... but at that moment I realized that deep down, I had been secretly hoping for a girl.

So as soon as we left, we looked at each other and said "It's Haven, isn't it?  That's her name."  We had mentioned it awhile back and were both really stuck on it (I've loved it for years, had a student by that name a few years back and just always thought it had a really sweet sound).  We tried not to get too attached to it in case we were having a boy... but as soon as we knew Baby Proffitt was a girl, Haven just had to be her name.  Then over lunch (we don't like to overthink some things I guess, lol) we decided on her middle name. So, without further ado, I present to you - Haven Alexandra Proffitt.  :)

I've also been playing around with ideas for her room, and I think I've decided on colors and a few other ideas.  I'm going with blue/gray walls, white furniture and trim, and pops of lime/apple green and a warm raspberry/pink color.  I'm a nerd and made a little idea board with the pictures I've been saving (not necessarily things I'm going to actually buy... although some of it, yes).  I'm in LOVE with how cute it is!!  I get to have my beloved pink and green, but I think I toned it down and de-babyfied it enough for Tim to be happy with it too.  :)

We don't have a "theme" really, but we both like elephants, I like birdies/trees, and Tim likes guitars (though I don't have any on here, sorry Tim!)... so I think it'll just be a little combo of all those things that we like.  I'm going for more of a color scheme than a theme.  I'm anxious to see how well it'll really turn out... I'm a little hit or miss when it comes to translating from paper to reality with decorating.  Downstairs?  Love it.  Our bedroom?  Like, but not what I had in my head exactly, and it still seems lacking.  So we'll see!

And finally, here are a few belly photos from the last few weeks since I haven't posted in awhile.  It's funny - at my 19 week appointment, my doctor commented on how the baby bump was still pretty small (but normal), but that I could "pop" just anytime now (or that it could even be way later), and swear by that weekend or early the next week I looked way more pregnant.  Funny how that happens.  :)  Still not into maternity clothes completely, but the belly band is getting uncomfortable, so I think I'm taking the plunge today and am going shopping for a few more pairs of actual maternity pants... I have a pair of jeans and capris, and they are GLORIOUS - I've decided once you go maternity, you really don't go back.  :)

Don't mind my flat, wet hair... Tim was about to leave, it was my only chance!  :)

Need to remember to close the door... lol

See?  Big difference from 19-20!
Oh!  And last bit of exciting news (this is turning out to be really long - oops), I can feel her move all the time now!  Since about 18 weeks, but now more than ever.  So exciting and so fun - I just love it.  I know at some point it will probably get old (when I'm trying to sleep and she's getting much bigger and stronger!), but for now, I relish the moments every time.  And this week I noticed that I can actually SEE her move sometimes!  It was pretty amazing (and surprising - thought that wouldn't be for awhile yet).  Sad that Tim has been in DC all week and wasn't here, but he gets home tonight, and I can't WAIT.  :)

OH!!  And my daily headaches I had for about 2 months straight?  Finally gone!!  Hallelujah!!  I was seriously about to lose my mind.  So I'm feeling pretty great now.  :)  And that is all, really.  I promise.  Off to enjoy my weekend with a little yoga and maternity clothes/craft shopping!

Beach day... Sorta

Today was supposed to be our beach day, so we decided to take the ferry across the harbor to Coronado. They built a new stop for the ferry that's a 5 minute walk from our hotel - score! Well, until we got there "early" at 11:30 to find that our "12:00 ferry" was actually the 11:25 ferry... I had been looking at the wrong place!! We watched it leaving and realized that if we speed-walked (1.2 miles!) we could make it to the actual 12:00 one... So that is what we did. Later realized we had mad sunburns and I have blisters on my toes, but we made it - sat down on the ferry at exactly 12:00 on the dot, I kid you not.

Thus began our happy, relaxed day at the beach. Hot, sweaty, tired, and kinda grumpy. When we got there, we found out that the Coronado Beach was a little over a mile down from the dock (seriously?!). Having JUST done that, we decided to park it on the little beach by the dock... Not terribly beautiful, not picturesque, but it was a beach dammit!! We hung out there and read/occasionally splashed around in the freezing cold water (That was expected and therefore not disappointing) for awhile until it was time to head back.

I make it sound like it was horrible, when really it wasn't... But I'm a planner and I like things to be the perfect little image I built in my head. It was a fun day (and I honestly enjoy pretty much anything as long as I've got Tim), but it was a bit of a let down.

Ah well! The rest of the evening was spectacular. :) We walked to this little place called "DCompress Downtown" for our massages (which I booked about a month ago... See? Planner.),
and it was amaaaazing! Pregnancy massage? LOVE!

Then we went to "Blue Point" for our anniversary dinner - so yummy! I had a 1/2 lobster and a filet mignon, and it was delicious! I also ordered a glass of Pinot noir (no judging!!) since it was a special occasion, and I'm well into the 2nd trimester. Gotta say though, wasn't really a fan. I think that'll be my first and last glass of wine til the baby is here, actually I only had about a third of it - just didn't really like it! I don't think having a small glass of wine or a beer occasionally when you're pregnant is bad, and I know there are others who most definitely think otherwise! I don't care - this is MY blog. :) That being said, I just don't think it's for me - neither the taste nor the minor aftertaste of vague guilt. The rest of our dinner was delish though!

Tomorrow? Zoo day!! And possibly a museum, though today's treks really took it outta me - kinda just want to spend a good part of the day on the "meditation terrace" that is apparently on our floor of the hotel... We shall see. :)

Goodnight!
